5 powerful instant messaging apps you should use by now

It is as if your ID had a typewriter. In a world where everything is instant, the delaying and censoring mechanisms that contributed to a civilized life are gone. – Maureen Dowd

One of the most growing forms of communication is instant messaging. Whether you’re at home or at work it lets you stay connected and be up to date. It helps people around the world to send quick text messages, make calls or exchange instant media. A message takes little time to reach the other person, no matter the distance. While you are in a chat room, you get the opportunity to see a full transcription of your conversation.

How does it work?

Most IM programs are connected to an Internet IM company that sends information between users. The information is verified using users’ identity and authentication. So when you logged in to your IM account it starts to connect to particular company’s server, Google or Yahoo for example.  Then you’ll see the full list of your contacts that are currently online. Occasionally you’ll notice the status of your friends “online”, “busy” or “offline”- depends on whether a person is using his/her computer.  So what happens when you send a message to another person? It travels from IM client to the IM server directly to your contact so the window pops up on his/her window. The message goes back and forth between the client and server, as you continue your chat. Other tasks, such as sending a file, is easy enough as well. It saves your time and gives the ability to share pictures, audio or video content directly to another person with almost no delay.
